This policy explains what happens to your personal data when you use this website. It is short because we collect very little.
Who we are
The Estate of Reuben Ugbine (“the Estate”, “we”) runs this website and decides what is done with the data collected here. Our address is 8b, Frankfort Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria. To reach us about your data, use the form on the Contact page, or write to the Estate at that address.
What we collect, and why
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your name, email address, phone number (optional), message, the work or topic you ask about, and a preferred date (optional) | You send an enquiry or a viewing request through the form | To answer you and arrange a viewing, a loan, research access or a sale |
| A short-lived, one-way code made from your internet address | You send an enquiry | To stop one connection from sending the form dozens of times. It is kept for an hour and cannot be turned back into your address |
| The list of works you save with “Save to selection” | You press the button | To remember your list. It stays in your own browser and is sent to us only if you choose to send it |
| Your choice about cookies | You use the cookie banner | To remember the choice, so we do not ask again on every page |
| Technical logs such as your internet address, browser and the pages requested | You visit any page. These are kept by our web host | To keep the site running and safe |
We do not run advertising, we do not sell or rent personal data, and this site has no analytics or tracking tool at the moment. If we add one, it will wait for your permission, and we will update this page and the Cookie Policy first.
Our legal basis
When you write to us, we use your details because you asked us a question and we need them to reply. For the cookie choice and anything optional, we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. For site logs and the one-hour throttle, we rely on our legitimate interest in keeping the site working and secure.
Who sees your data
- The Estate’s staff and family members who answer enquiries.
- Our web host, which stores the site and its database, and our email provider, which delivers the messages. They process data for us under their own security terms.
- WhatsApp (Meta), only if you choose to message us there. Clicking the WhatsApp button opens their app or site, and their privacy policy applies from that point.
We do not share your enquiry with anyone else unless the law requires it. Some of our providers may handle data outside Nigeria. When that happens, we expect them to protect it to a standard comparable to Nigerian law.
How long we keep it
We keep an enquiry for as long as we need it to answer you and to keep a fair record of our dealings. If you ask us to delete it, we will, unless we are legally obliged to keep it. Server logs are kept by our host for a short period.
Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, and under the UK and EU rules if they apply to you, you can:
- ask what data we hold about you, and get a copy;
- ask us to correct anything wrong;
- ask us to delete your data, or to stop using it;
- object to how we use it, or ask us to restrict it;
- ask for your data in a portable form;
- withdraw consent at any time, for example through “Cookie settings” in the footer.
Write to us through the Contact page and we will answer. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), or to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
This website is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you think a child has sent us data, tell us and we will delete it.
Security
The site uses HTTPS, forms are protected against forgery and spam, and enquiries are stored privately, where only site administrators can read them. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send us anything sensitive, such as bank details, through the form.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we do, we will update this page and the date at the bottom.
